The Fraunhofer Institute ISE “CalLab” (Freiburg, Germany) has issued certificates confirming the results of the single crystal silicon on sapphire solar cells fabricated by Solar-Tectic LLC earlier this year (in collaboration with NREL and BWS) and adding a few additional measurements of the cells.

The certificates with information can be found on the Solar-Tectic LLC web-site under “1c-Si Sapphire (prototype)”.

The cells are the first ever metal-induced single crystal heteroepitaxial cells to be made and Solar-Tectic LLC expects that with a small amount of additional R&D the performance can be dramatically improved.
